FUNDS & FOUNDATIONS: Resources for Entertainment Workers

The Tennessee Entertainment Commission is working to gather resources for employees in the Entertainment Industry that are currently in need of assistance. We are working with industry leaders to update this page with resources, links and assistance opportunities as they become available.  

 NSAI  WRITER Foundation

The Nashville Songwriters Association International (NSAI) has created a non-profit organization called the WRITER Foundation (We’re Ready In Time of Emergency Relief).  The foundation will accept applications Wednesday, May 13th at Noon CDT for $1,000 assistance grants.  Applications will be honored on a first-come basis beginning at Noon CDT at the writerfoundation.org website and processed sequentially.  Any professional writer or composer in the United State is eligible except for NSAI and WRITER Foundation Board Members.

The Nashville filmmaking community is experiencing widespread economic shut-downs due to COVID-19. In response, NFG 501(c)(3) is launching a fund to provide financial relief to the hardest hit support crew during these pervasive job cancellations. 

THE SONGWRITERS LIFELINE

Assistance for songwriters, composers and the musicians and singers. The program functions as an entryway and guide through The Actors Fund's many programs when you're facing personal or work-related problems. It is also a conduit for emergency financial assistance in times of pressing need or in response to catastrophic events.

A non-profit organization providing the music industry with healthcare insurance, healthcare resources and confidential guidance. Tatum Allsep, while working with Vanderbilt Medical Center in 2006, began documenting the music industry’s need for healthcare support. Along, with Kix Brooks (Brooks & Dunn) and the Country Music Association she worked to fund healthcare as a way to bring insurance to the music industry. MHA has served 8,200 music industry professionals and their families and secured 30 million in health care cost reduction to HEAL the Music.

JAZZ MUSICIANS EMERGENCY FUND

Committed to helping jazz professionals, especially older musicians, overcome their hard times and to help them get back on their feet, making emergency funds available for immediate needs. They have programs for housing and emergency assistance, a network of pro bono medical care providers, and disaster relief.

Provides financial assistance to all types of career musicians who are facing illness, disability, or age-related problems. The applicant must be a musician who has regular public performances, or performed on at least three widely released recordings (audio or audiovisual), or written music that has been performed on three widely released recordings, or published on three occasions. 

THE RHYTHM AND BLUES FOUNDATION

MUSIC MAKER RELIEF FOUNDATION

Helps the pioneers and forgotten heroes of Southern musical traditions gain recognition and meet their day to day needs. Criteria for recipients is they be rooted in a Southern musical tradition, be 55 years or older and have an annual income less than $18,000. Musician Sustenance – Grants for necessities such as food, medical needs, housing. Emergency Relief – Substantial one-time grants to recipients in crisis (medical, fire, theft, etc.).

MUSICIANS FOUNDATION IN NEW YORK

Provides financial assistance to musicians across the country in times of need.    $3,000 is the maximum the group gives out.  This fund is for musicians, songwriter, royalty artists. 

SOCIETY OF SINGERS FINANCIAL AID

Helps singers meet financial needs resulting from crises or other circumstances. Charitable grants may be provided toward basic necessities of life such as food, shelter, utilities, medical/dental assistance, HIV/AIDS treatment, substance abuse rehab, psychotherapy and other basic expenses.

Helps relieve the financial burden caused by the public health response to the new coronavirus and the tornado in Nashville.   The Nashville, Sound Royalties is offering a zero-cost advance options for any new royality advance application submitted until April 16th, 2020. For songwriters, performing artist, producers, others with royality income.
