About the talk:

Sooo, apparently our brains are addicted to being right. [Law and Order “dun dun” here]. Yep. Scientific studies have shown that the reward center of our brains react the same way when we think we’re right, that they do when we’re high on drugs. Our brains flood with adrenaline and dopamine. We get addicted to that feeling, and it impairs our judgment, resulting in dangerous confirmation bias. As creatives, we learn to present our solutions as "right". Half our job is making a case and winning over people to our way of thinking to get that project approval. The more they agree, the more we feel empowered to intrinsically trust our gut and singular perspective. That can often lead to shutting out opposing views, isolating ourselves from outside input, and banishing rivals (re: becoming a creative dictator / Stalin with a Creative Cloud subscription). Needless to say, this isn’t good news for our career or our relationships. Sprinkled with anecdotes and personal stories, we’ll cover the bias cure: critique and collaborative brainstorming, and how to integrate them into how we work.
